Masterclass — Great South Aussie Reds | Tasting Australia

Let’s take a moment for local reds at their most remarkable: wines proudly holding their own in global company. Host Katie Spain will be joined by Seppeltsfield chief winemaker Fiona Donald, Henschke senior winemaker Gwyn Olsen and Wirra Wirra chief executive Matthew Deller MW to celebrate the best. Shiraz, grenache and cabernet sauvignon feature in this masterclass, with some foreign interlopers also set to join the lineup. Taste iconic premium reds that are notoriously hard to find, and hear from experts continuing to shape a South Australian legacy. Spain – journalist, wine writer and author – is the national drinks writer for Good Food, feature writer for Australia’s Wine Business Magazine and South Australian editor for Gourmet Traveller. Put simply: she knows the people and labels that matter. Donald, meanwhile, draws on more than three decades of industry experience in her role at Seppeltsfield, working with unique Barossa terroir to craft its acclaimed range of single vineyard reds. Nearby Eden Valley is home to Olsen, a noted judge and scholar of wine who joined Henschke ahead of the 2023 vintage. The revered Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone lead its red portfolio. McLaren Vale’s Wirra Wirra have also made intense, beautifully crafted reds their focus, with its classic Church Block blend a signature. Priorities for Deller include expanding its international reach and premium wine offering.
