Kakadu

One of the few places on Earth recognised for both its landscape and its living culture

Kakadu holds a rare dual World Heritage listing, honoured both for its dramatic wilderness and for holding the world's oldest continuing culture, tens of thousands of years deep. Rock art at sites like Ubirr and Nourlangie tells that story directly on stone, among the most significant galleries of its kind anywhere on Earth. Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls plunge into stone gorges carved over millennia, waterfalls worth the journey in their own right. Floodplains across the park hum with wildlife, saltwater crocodiles and abundant birdlife both thriving in genuine wilderness. This is a landscape and a culture, inseparable from each other.
