Tennant Creek & Barkly Region

This stretch of the Stuart Highway is true outback in every sense, flat horizons broken only by cattle stations and the occasional roadhouse. Tennant Creek anchors it with real gold mining history, Battery Hill Mining Centre taking visitors underground into shafts once worked by hand. Further along, Karlu Karlu, the Devils Marbles, scatters huge granite boulders across the plain, spectacular by day and even more so after dark, when the sky fills with more stars than most visitors have ever seen. Long before any of that, this was already Warumungu Country, and it still is.
