This island holds one of the most remarkable resettlement stories in the Pacific, an entire community of Pitcairn Islanders, descendants of the Bounty mutineers, resettled here whole in 1856 and still speaking Norf'k, a language found nowhere else on Earth. Walk the convict ruins of Kingston and Arthur's Vale, a World Heritage site as haunting as any in the country, then snorkel the calm reef at Emily Bay. Climb Mount Pitt through groves of the island's namesake pines for the best view going. Everyone here knows everyone, including you, eventually.
