Home to the largest fleet of paddle steamers left in the world
The river slows down here, and everything around it seems to follow suit. Echuca keeps the largest surviving fleet of paddle steamers anywhere in the world, heritage boats still running on water they've worked for over a century. Just upstream, Barmah National Park holds one of the largest river red gum forests on Earth, ancient trees standing over water that Yorta Yorta people have called home for tens of thousands of years. Some rivers rush. This one has never seen the point.
