Alice Springs & Surrounds

The desert capital between two mountain ranges

Alice Springs sits squarely between the East and West MacDonnell Ranges, genuine desert range country stretching out on either side of town. The Todd River runs dry most of the year, and locals make the most of it with the Henley-on-Todd Regatta, bottomless boats raced on foot down the empty riverbed. Climb Anzac Hill for a view over the whole town and out to the ranges beyond. The Araluen Cultural Precinct holds some of the finest Aboriginal art in the country. Out here, even the driest river still finds a way to fill up with life.
