Limestone Coast

This coast has been keeping records longer than almost anywhere else on the continent. Naracoorte Caves prove it, half a million years of fossilised megafauna preserved well enough to earn World Heritage status. The same limestone shapes everything above ground too, sinkholes and cliffs worn slowly by the Southern Ocean. Terra rossa soil, deep red over limestone bedrock, gives the Coonawarra its name and reputation. This coast has always taken its time getting here.
