Aafia Ali Shah: To Love the Empty Cup

The human being is an in-between of things. It is a membrane between the ‘external’ and ‘internal’ governed by opposing laws of logic and un-logic. The language of logic comes naturally to us but does not provide the vocabulary to perceive beyond. The beauty of un-logic ‘The Unknowable’, can only be glimpsed once attachment to reason is relinquished. To love the empty cup is an exhibition that seeks to visualise The Unknowable, not as the mind understands, but as the spirit sees. Aafia Ali Shah is the recipient of the 2023 Southern Cross University Bachelor of Art and Design VERGE Graduate Award.
