Dates

10 May 2025

Description

Held within the tranquil grounds of the historic Truganina Explosives Reserve in Altona, the event is held to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day on 10 May 2025. The day signifies the time of year that migratory shorebirds leave our southern shores to breed in the Northern Hemisphere summer. The birds fly along the East Asian Australasian Flyway, some all the way to Siberia. Community and environmental stalls will focus on the positive efforts being made by groups to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect the environment for generations to come. A Bunurong Land Council Elder will perform a Welcome and Smoking Ceremony and lead a Cultural Walk and Talk. There will be children's art activities, plant giveaways, music, science activities, more guided walks and a free barbeque. Entry is free.
