Description

The Gai-mariagal Festival will open with a special sand painting event led by Aboriginal Elder, educator, and artist Walangari Karntawarra, in acknowledgment of Sorry Day. Taking place at Wahroonga Park, the event will feature the creation of a sustainable and traditional Western Desert Sand Painting, with active participation from the community. This hands-on experience invites attendees to engage with First Nations culture and explore the universal concept of impermanence through art. Colin Walangari Karntawarra McCormack is an Aboriginal Elder and artist originally from Alice Springs, now based in Sydney. A multi-talented individual, he is also a gifted musician, cultural educator, public speaker, and performer, known for his powerful presence and deep cultural knowledge.
