Before RENT, there was Tick, Tick… BOOM! Jonathan Larson’s semi-autobiographical musical is a look at the struggle and the business of art. It tells the story of an aspiring composer named Jon, who lives in New York City in 1990. Jon is worried he has made the wrong career choice to be part of the performing arts, with all his friends beginning to give up on their dreams of performing or creating in favour of ‘regular’ jobs. With his 30th birthday approaching, Jon asks the question – 'With only so much time to spend, don’t wanna waste the time I’m given “Have it all, play the game” – some recommend – I’m afraid it just might be time to give in…' Featuring Canberra’s best – Dave Collins, Taylor Paliaga, and Alexander Unikowski – Tick, Tick… BOOM! tells a story of dreams, relationships, and artistic challenges.
