New Places Old Stories

A wonderful exhibition of works from Mannum artist Angelee Theodoros. This exhibition presents a collection of artworks inspired by the narratives and landscapes of Mannum and surrounding areas. In 2023 Angelee moved to Mannum after living in the Adelaide Hills for 40 years, where she taught and raised a family. With fresh eyes she has witnessed the ever-changing landscapes of the river's misty mornings, changing to bright dazzling reflections, then cliffs painted in deep shades of orange as the sun sets. She's seen the seasons change from hot dry dust to crisp frosty mornings and the sudden downpour of a welcome thunderstorm. The abundant bird life, the spring gift of flowering eremophila and cassia and the return of the monarch butterfly are part of this tapestry. Old buildings and the gentle steady pumping of paddle steamers remind her of the early settlers pioneering spirit. Fossils imbedded in ancient soil and indigenous artefacts and dreaming stories still remain, omnipresent. The tourists add their colour with the sounds of houseboats, jet-skis and squeals of delight and laughter – a new era. Primarily self-taught, she explores various genres using different media, with a particular fondness for landscapes in watercolor and acrylic. She often works from photographs, employing a realistic and sometimes impressionistic style. In her studio, she fluidly transitions between mediums and projects as inspiration strikes.
