Barkly Tablelands Area

The Barkly Tablelands run flat and endless east of Tennant Creek, grassland stretching far enough that the horizon barely seems to move no matter how long you drive. Some of the Territory's largest cattle stations call this country home, working land on a scale that's hard to grasp until you've actually crossed it. Dawn and dusk do the real work here, rocky rises catching colour that shifts by the minute across the empty plain. Few places in Australia offer this much space with this little in the way.
