Australia's Golden Outback

A granite cliff shaped exactly like a breaking wave, frozen in stone

This is a region that trades in scale and strangeness both, and Wave Rock proves it, a fifteen-metre granite formation near Hyden curved and streaked like an ocean wave about to break, despite sitting hundreds of kilometres from the sea. Further north, Mount Augustus rises even larger, widely considered the biggest rock monolith on Earth, dwarfing Uluru without the crowds. Down at the southern edge, Esperance keeps some of the whitest beaches in the country, turquoise water against sand that squeaks underfoot. However far you travel through it, this land rarely does the expected thing.
