Cool rainforest climbing straight into big sky country
Gippsland holds a genuine contrast within a short drive, ancient rainforest in the Strzelecki Ranges giving way to open coastline and big skies. The Ninety Mile Beach runs almost the entire length of that coast, one of the longest unbroken stretches of sand in the country. Behind it, the Gippsland Lakes spread out as Australia's largest network of coastal lagoons. Wilsons Promontory anchors the southern end, granite headlands marking the tip of mainland Australia.
