Gulf Savannah

This is Queensland's true remote north-west, savannah country running for hundreds of kilometres between a handful of towns. Undara's lava tubes run for tens of kilometres underground, among the longest on Earth, and guided tours walk you straight through the cooled volcanic rock. Cobbold Gorge narrows so tightly that the only way through is by guided boat. Out on the Gulf, Karumba serves up some of the best barramundi fishing in the country, and a genuine rarity, a sunset that sets directly over the water.
