One of Australia's highest sealed roads, running straight through the clouds
The Great Alpine Road climbs higher than almost any other sealed road in the country, winding through towns that turn from summer green to winter white within months. Mount Hotham and Falls Creek anchor the ski season, powder slopes and toboggan runs drawing crowds each winter. Giant silo murals stand at the edge of small towns throughout the region, grain storage turned into genuine roadside galleries. This is a region built for moving through slowly, whatever the season.
