Arnhem Land

Sixty thousand years of continuous culture

Arnhem Land is Aboriginal-owned country, and visiting properly means arranging a permit in advance, a small formality that reflects something much larger: sixty thousand years of unbroken culture and custodianship. The land itself spans nearly 100,000 square kilometres of stone country, savannah and floodplain, coastline running along the Arafura Sea where the fishing is genuinely some of the best in the country. Hike through ancient escarpment country, or explore secluded beaches and rockpools along a coast most visitors never reach. This is wilderness in the truest sense, cared for by the same people who've always cared for it.
