Home to some of the oldest continuously producing vines on Earth
Most of the world's old vineyards were wiped out by disease more than a century ago, but the Barossa's isolation meant it never arrived, leaving vines here still producing from roots planted in the 1800s. Lutheran church spires mark the valley's German settlement history, some of the oldest congregations in the country still worshipping in the same buildings. The Whispering Wall at the Barossa Reservoir carries a whisper clean across the dam wall, a genuine acoustic trick worth testing for yourself. This valley has been quietly getting things right for longer than most.
