Bauhinia Area

A gorge with hundred-metre cliffs, right on the edge of a tiny town

Robinson Gorge, reached from Bauhinia, cuts fourteen kilometres between sandstone walls up to a hundred metres high. Ten minutes south, Zamia Creek is worth a line and a look, both for the fishing and for the wild bauhinia trees the town takes its name from. Like most towns through the Central Queensland Highlands, Bauhinia carves its own story into a steel entry sign, agriculture and sport cut straight into the metal. Small town, big view.
