Brewarrina

Standing beside the oldest human structure in the country

This stretch of the Barwon-Darling holds something older than almost anything else built by human hands on Earth, older than the pyramids by a wide margin. The fish traps at Baiame's Ngunnhu still channel fish through the river today, and Ngemba families continue to maintain and use them exactly as they always have. Walk out to see the stonework laid across the riverbed, then learn the full story at the Aboriginal Cultural Museum. Brewarrina doesn't perform for visitors. It just lets you stand quietly in something enormous.
