South Australia's whole story starts here, the colony proclaimed on this beach in 1836 and still marked by a replica of the ship that carried the first settlers ashore. A vintage tram runs the length of Adelaide straight to Moseley Square, Glenelg's beating heart, delivering visitors onto the sand without needing a car. The jetty stretches out over calm water, a genuine landmark rather than just a place to fish. Few beaches anywhere carry quite this much history in the sand.
