City of Marion

Two-hundred-and-fifty-million-year-old glacier scars, carved right into the coastal cliffs

This coastline holds a piece of deep time most people walk straight past, Hallett Cove's rock scratched and grooved by glaciers some 250 million years ago, still visible along the cliff walk today. Sturt Gorge Recreation Park offers a different kind of walk further inland, bushland trails winding through a proper river gorge. The Marion Cultural Centre rounds out the suburb with genuine exhibitions and performances, a real cultural anchor rather than an afterthought. Few coastal walks anywhere let you touch something quite this old.
