The only place on Earth where giant cuttlefish gather to breed
Nowhere else on the planet does this happen. Between May and August, giant Australian cuttlefish arrive off Whyalla's coast to breed in numbers found nowhere else, colours shifting mid-display in a spectacle divers travel from across the world to see. The beaches here are the town's other quiet asset, calm Spencer Gulf water rarely as crowded as the coast further south. This town's biggest attraction lives entirely underwater.
