District Council of Mount Remarkable
A 960-metre summit, and a landscape now recovering from fire
Not every climb pays off quite like this one. Mount Remarkable's summit rises 960 metres above the Willochra Plain, views stretching across the whole southern Flinders Ranges. Alligator Gorge cuts deep and narrow through the park, a genuine highlight reached by trails winding past ancient rock walls. A bushfire in February 2025 burnt about a quarter of the park, with most areas since reopened, offering a rare chance to watch the bush regenerate firsthand.
