District Council of Peterborough

The only place in Australia where three different railway gauges once met

Some towns exist because of a war, or a gold rush. This one exists because of a railway problem: three different gauges converging in one place, trains forced to stop and transfer wherever the tracks didn't match. Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre keeps that history alive, locomotives and a working roundhouse standing from the town's railway heyday. Even the hill on the way out of town seems to have its own sense of humour.
