Emerald Area

A quarter-billion-year-old tree, and a sunflower painting twenty-five metres tall

Emerald takes its name from a green hill on its outskirts, but the real oddities are in town. Morton Park holds a Van Gogh Sunflowers replica twenty-five metres high, propped on its own giant easel, and just down the road, the Town Hall keeps a fossilised tree estimated at over 250 million years old. The 1900 railway station, wrought iron lacework restored to its original condition, is worth the walk alone. Out at Lake Maraboon, the fishing runs to eight different species, with swimming and waterskiing filling the rest of the day.
