Etheridge Area

This stretch of Gulf Savannah country holds two of Queensland's strangest landscapes within an hour of each other. Undara's lava tubes run for tens of kilometres underground, among the longest and best-preserved on Earth, and guided tours walk you straight through rock formed a hundred thousand years ago. Cobbold Gorge narrows so tightly in places that a guided boat is the only way through, sandstone walls close enough to touch on both sides. Georgetown's TerrEstrial Centre tells the region's deeper geological story in mineral and gemstone form. Out here, the ground itself is the main attraction.
