The traditional custodians here describe this coast as the place where the leaves touch the water, from the mountains to the sea, and Cape Hawke Lookout proves it in one turn, lake, ocean and hinterland all in view together. Wallis Lake spreads calm behind the dunes for some of the best paddling on this coast, while inland, Ellenborough Falls drops as one of the longest single-drop waterfalls in the Southern Hemisphere while the Manning River winds quietly through Taree, farmland and fishing towns lining its banks the whole way to the sea. Leaves, water, mountains, sea: the old description still gets it exactly right.
