In 1867, prospector James Nash found gold on the exact ground where Gympie's town hall now stands, and the rush rescued Queensland from the edge of bankruptcy. The Mary Valley Rattler keeps that era alive properly, a heritage steam train still winding through the valley on tracks laid during the gold days.
