Isisford Area

Drive into Isisford and the Outback's biggest Yellow Belly greets you first, a twelve-metre, five-metre-high sculpture built from corrugated iron and thousands of rivets gathered off surrounding properties. It celebrates the annual fishing competition held each July at Oma Waterhole, one of the river's permanent, popular camping and fishing spots. The town itself inspired Banjo Paterson, and the two-storey Clancy's Overflow Hotel still carries his poem's name. At the Outer Barcoo Interpretation Centre, learn about the discovery of Australia's oldest known crocodile fossil, found right here. Out here, even the roadside art has a story worth stopping for.
