Lake Macquarie Area

This whole region moves at the pace of flat, calm water, and there's a lot of it: Lake Macquarie is the largest saltwater lake in the Southern Hemisphere, roughly three times the size of Sydney Harbour. Sail or kayak the western shore around Wangi Wangi, or cast a line for bream and flathead in water so sheltered it barely notices the wind. Where the lake meets the ocean at Swansea, the mood flips fast, surf beaches and a real channel current taking over. Even the water here seems to know when to slow down.
