This region holds a genuine piece of Australian environmental history in its hills, Protesters Falls named for the 1979 blockade that helped stop the logging of these forests for good. The Lismore Regional Gallery holds a genuinely strong collection for a town this size, part of a wider creative community drawn here by green hills and river light. Nimbin keeps its own counterculture legend alive nearby, still marching to its own beat since the 1973 Aquarius Festival. Some places get discovered. This one got defended.
