A lake on one side, the ocean on the other, and a killer whale who worked for a living
Split a town down the middle and you get Merimbula, Main Beach's open Pacific surf on one side, a calm, warm lake on the other. South at Eden, the museum tells one of the strangest true stories on the coast, Old Tom, a killer whale who spent decades helping local whalers hunt for a share of the catch. North at Tathra, the region keeps its last historic ocean wharf, still standing over open water. Even the museum's whale has a better work story than most of us.
