Cape Melville National Park holds one of the strangest landscapes in Queensland, ancient rainforest thriving in the gaps between massive granite boulders piled up like a giant's leftovers. Fish the coastline, camp under it, and watch for wildlife that's had this stretch of Gulf Savannah country largely to itself for a long time. Birdwatchers come for species rarely seen this far north, and hikers for tracks that stay properly quiet even in peak season.
