A 19th-century gaol still standing exactly as it was left
Some heritage sites get restored beyond recognition. This one didn't. Gladstone Gaol has barely changed since it closed, cells and yards preserved much as they were when the last prisoners left. Jamestown anchors the district with Bundaleer Forest nearby, one of the state's oldest pine plantations turned into a genuine network of cycling and walking trails. This district has always let its history speak for itself.
