Phillip Island fits a surprising amount of family fun into a short drive, the Grand Prix Circuit hosting the MotoGP each year alongside mini-golf courses, mazes and a working chocolate factory. The island's coastline swings from wild ocean surf to sheltered bays within minutes, and yes, the little penguins really do come home at dusk exactly as promised. Cowes anchors it all as the main town, a short stroll from the jetty to the beach. Some islands try to be everything at once, and somehow this one manages it.
