The smoke stack visible from almost anywhere in town tells you exactly what built this place. Port Pirie's lead smelter is still one of the largest of its kind anywhere on Earth, central to the port's history from the very beginning. Heritage buildings from that boom line the streets, grand facades built when the port was among the busiest in the state. This town has never tried to hide what made it.
