Tablelands Area

This green plateau above Cairns holds some of the most photographed natural features in tropical Queensland, starting with the crater lakes at Eacham and Barrine, both clear enough for a proper swim. Follow the Waterfall Circuit to Millaa Millaa Falls, the single most photographed waterfall in the country, water dropping past a curtain of rainforest. The Curtain Fig Tree nearby does something almost as strange, aerial roots hanging in a genuine curtain from a strangler fig unlike anything else in the forest. Herberton and Johnstone hold their own deeper stories further out, heritage towns and rainforest waterfalls both worth the detour.
