The Outback Highway

A road that crosses three states and barely sees a sealed surface

This is a drive measured in days, not hours, nearly 2,800 kilometres of mostly unsealed track running from Laverton in Western Australia all the way to Winton in Queensland. Fuel stops and towns thin out fast once you leave the coast behind, making proper planning as much a part of the trip as the driving itself. The road passes through Aboriginal communities and Country that predates any highway by tens of thousands of years. The distance is the whole point.
