Tumbarumba

A whole disused railway, turned into forty-odd kilometres of trail

The old line to Rosewood doesn't carry trains any more, it carries walkers and cyclists instead, winding through farmland and cool-climate vineyards on one of the best rail trails in the country. The rivers here are just as good, Tumbarumba's fly fishing waters rated among the finest trout streams in the state, with Paddys River Falls making an easy stop between casts. Saddle up instead and ride through the same rolling country, mountain peaks standing over green pasture. This is a place that never quite decided whether it's farmland or high country.
