Tumut

The town that turns gold and red every autumn

Tumut plants for autumn the way other towns plant for summer, and the results are properly spectacular: whole streets and parks blazing copper and crimson for weeks each year. The rest of the seasons are just as active. Blowering Dam, a serious wakeboarding and waterskiing lake, sits just outside town, and the Tumut River below it holds some of the best trout water on this side of the mountains. Walk sections of the old Hume and Hovell explorers' track nearby. Most visitors come for one season. Locals will tell you to try all four.
