Cowra Bridge Pylons

The Cowra Bridge Pylons are situated beneath the Lachlan River Bridge and feature Aboriginal murals. The murals were painted by local Aboriginal artist, Kym Freeman and depict the history of the Wiradjuri people who inhabited the Cowra area before English settlement. The size of the murals and the attention to fine detail make them a must-see when visiting Cowra. They are just a short walk from the Visitor Information Centre down towards the river. Previously the pylons were a heavily vandalised site, Mr Freeman has incorporated indigenous themes with other aspects of Cowra's history. Mr Freeman has also had input from the local youth in the project with both Koori and non-Aboriginal school children placing their handprints onto the pylons and several local schools contributing their ideas and artwork into the murals. Funding for the Bridge Pylon Project has come from Cowra Shire Council, Australian Arts Council and the Roads and the Traffic Authority.
