Description

Fort Lytton National Park is an important historic site. From 1881 to 1945 this coastal fortress was the focus of Queensland's defence activity. One of several built around Australia's coast in the nineteenth century for protection from invasion, the well-preserved pentagonal fort is concealed behind grassy embankments and surrounded by a water-filled moat. Join a guided tour and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the fort and its restored guns, which were designed to fire and disappear! Learn more detail in the museum. Enjoy a picnic with a background of scenic river views. Fort Lytton is half an hour’s drive from the centre of Brisbane. The Go Back in Time program provides exciting and innovative ways to visit and experience some of the premier heritage sites in Moreton Bay. The program has a strong educational focus, with many activities using theatre-in-education techniques designed to engage students' imagination. To ensure a high-quality program, all school activities and tours are accredited and developed in conjunction with Education Queensland.
