Description

The Major Mitchell Memorial, located in Shamrock Street, was unveiled on September 19, 1946. Thomas Mitchell was the first European to explore the area in 1846, which then led to the area being opened up for settlement. Keeping a watch over Blackall main street, the magnificent memorial clock is dedicated to Major Mitchell, his off-sider Graham Douglas and their Aboriginal interpreter Youranigh.
