Dimalurru Tunnel Creek National Park

A visit to the Dimalurru Tunnel Creek National Park is a truly unique experience that you must include on your Kimberley itinerary. It is close to Bandilngan Windjana Gorge so you'll have plenty of time to see both landmarks in one day. Tunnel Creek is situated 36 kilometres east of Windjana Gorge and 111 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing. Dimalurru Tunnel Creek flows through a water-worn tunnel in the limestone of the Napier Range, part of the 350 million-year-old Devonian Reef system. Walk through the 750-metre tunnel which takes you from one side of the Napier Range to the other. You will have to wade through several permanent pools and return the same way. At least five species of bats live in the cave, including ghost bats and fruit bats, and stalactites descend from the roof in many places. Look out for the many fish and freshwater crocodiles that live in the cave. The roof has collapsed through to the top of the range near the centre of the tunnel. Take a torch, wear sneakers and be prepared to get wet and possibly cold.
