Description

The tranquil surroundings at Camel Soak east of Perenjori, provide an excellent spot to sit down for a picnic. Visit the manmade granite watering hole where men and their camels would obtain a much-needed drink whilst undertaking the arduous task of building the Rabbit Proof Fence in the early 1900s. Forming part of the Perenjori-Rothsay Heritage Trail, Camel Soak is one of many stops you can make along this self-drive tour. The heritage trail can take anywhere from three hours to a full day to complete, depending on your schedule. Visit the Perenjori Museum for an interesting look at the history of the region, take in the breathtaking views from the John Forrest lookout and Mungar's Lake lookout and explore part of the Rabbit-Proof Fence country. Discover Australia's native fauna and be captivated by the stunning wildflower displays including the rare wreath flowers. Just four hours drive north of Perth, the charming Wheatbelt town of Perenjori is also home to one of the churches designed by renowned priest and architect Monsignor John Hawes, who played a significant role in the development of this region.
