Description

The Hume and Hovell Walking Track covers over 440 kilometres. All walking tracks are signposted providing opportunities for numerous day walks or extended walks taking 25 days over its entire length. The track starts at Cooma Cottage Yass and follows as closely the route followed by Hamilton Hume and William Hovell in the spring and summer of 1824-1825. The route traverses a variety of topography, vegetation and land use, as well as numerous points of historic interest. Major track heads are developed at Wee Jasper, Cootamundra River (near Tumut) and Henry Angel (near Tumbarumba). Car access to campsites is provided with toilets, fireplaces and tables for the long distant walker. Although the basic activity associated with the track is walking, there are opportunities for a range of recreational pursuits including swimming, camping, fishing, photography, wildlife observation and historical appreciation. Guidebooks and map kits available from the Yass Valley Information Centre. Hume and Hovell walking tracks include: Yass to Wee Jasper - half, one day and weekend walks suitable for families. Thomas Boyd track lands to Talbingo. Talbingo to Henry Angel track head. Henry Angel track head to Tumbarumba. Tumbarumba to Lankeys Creek. Lankeys Creek to Woomargama. Woomargama to Albury.
