Pender Bay
Discover Pender Bay
Pender Bay is a National Heritage listed coastal wilderness – an idyllic secluded enclave for wildlife and whale watching, swimming, snorkelling and fishing.
The bay is located north of Broome, on the Dampier Peninsula, and accessible by four wheel drive only. The drive takes around four and a half hours, but you should allow time to stop and admire Beagle Bay’s striking Sacred Heart Church, or join an Aboriginal tour to experience one of the oldest surviving cultures on Earth.
Every August, Pender Bay is visited by one of the world's largest populations of humpback whales. This is their nursery and resting ground before they migrate south to the Antarctic. You can view these majestic creatures from various lookouts around the bay.
An afternoon reef walk at low tide will also reveal some smaller marine life, including octopuses, crabs and sea urchins.
A morning beach walk is filled with birdlife, from honeyeaters and bower birds to eagles and oyster catchers, and an evening stroll brings a striking light show as the sunset plays on the pindan cliffs.
Your bed for the night is under a star-filled sky – choose from self-contained eco tents, chalets or unpowered camping sites.
