Description

Surrender yourself to the South West. The salty spray of waves and towering forests awaken the senses, while premium wines and exquisite local produce provide ever-lasting appreciation for the bounty of land and sea. Sit back on a four-day, 756-kilometre jaunt through spectacular scenery and world-class wine country. Starting from Perth’s thriving metropolis, you can head to the South West one of two ways: via historic Mundijong or Harvey, which provides a delectable entrée to what lies ahead. You’ll find all sorts of artisans hiding in the hills of the Ferguson Valley, an award-winning wine region characterised by small-batch wines and family-run producers. Let Bunbury bewitch you with its cosmopolitan cafes and bespoke boutiques, then head to the shore to say hello to the town’s most popular locals, the wild bottlenose dolphins. Next, breathe in the warm coastal charm of Busselton, work up an appetite on a gentle stroll of its 1.8-kilometre jetty, and admire the calm waters of Dunsborough. Internationally acclaimed Margaret River is as famous for its soil as it is for its surf breaks and immaculate beaches – the geography and micro-climate of the region contributing to elegant wines such as chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. Sample these award-winning varietals at more than 100 cellar doors, before settling in for an evening of fine dining. Thirsty for more? Revel in the blissful surrounds, hike, swim, or simply soak up some rays. Pemberton – home to fine cool-climate wineries and famous for its marron, a delicate-tasting freshwater crayfish – invites you to explore towering Karri forests. Beedelup Falls is a peaceful interlude of rushing water tumbling over granite. This odyssey culminates in Manjimup, where giant Karri trees stand guard, cool-climate wines abound, and a special delicacy lies beneath the ground – prized black Perigord truffles.
